What Locals Actually Buy: A Community-Sourced Guide to Farm Stands & Hidden Gems Near Mill Spring
Here's the thing about living in a small community: the best recommendations never make it to Google. They live in comment sections, text threads, and conversations at the gas station.
Last week, we asked our followers one simple question: where do you actually shop local? Thirty-four comments later, we had a list worth saving.
This isn't a sponsored guide. Nobody paid to be here. This is just your neighbors telling you what they love — and we wrote it down so you could find it.
Farm Stands & Fresh Food
Thermal Ridge (Columbus)
The runaway favorite. Multiple people called it their go-to spot, and one commenter mentioned she Zelle'd them four times last week alone — which honestly says everything. Farm-fresh eggs, quality produce, canned goods, and homemade products. Located on the left heading into Columbus, just past Avery Creek Nursery. They're active on Facebook and responsive to messages, so give them a follow.
Three Ridges Farm (Green Creek)
Currently offering eggs and lamb shares. A farm stand is opening August/September, along with farm-to-door delivery. Protein subscription boxes are coming this fall. Follow their Facebook page now so you don't miss the launch.
Ruffled Feathers Farm Stand (Landrum)
Off Hunting Country Road toward Landrum. Multiple neighbors mentioned this one unprompted — always a good sign. Find them on Facebook.
Bensons Produce
On Highway 108, just as you cross through Lynn on the right. Simple, local, exactly what it sounds like.
Terra Lingua Growers LLC (Landrum)
Tagged with genuine enthusiasm by a community member. Worth looking up on Facebook.
Charlene's Garden
A local favorite that came up in the thread — follow their Facebook page for current availability.
Cothran Farms LLC (Inman)
Another community-recommended farm worth checking out.
Mill Spring Farm Store (82 Hwy 9N, across from Deb's)
A gathering point for local food artisans — including Twisted Fork, which sells pound cakes here alongside produce and goods from local farms, dairies, and backyard gardens.
Local Makers & Services
Southern Case Care LLC
Run by Zona Case out of Landrum. She offers dog walking, farm and pet visits (chickens, horses, and more), garden and houseplant tending, homemade dog treats, and baked goods and jams. Reach her at 828-388-2254.
The Thrifted Thimble
Felicia M James does local seamstress work and sells homemade jams, jellies, and fresh canned goods made in her own kitchen. The kind of small business that deserves more attention than it gets.
Puddle Duck Cottage (Landrum)
A community-recommended spot worth exploring — look them up on Facebook.
The Bottom Line
Your neighbors know things Google doesn't. This list came entirely from one Facebook post — imagine what else is out there.
If we missed your favorite spot, drop it in the comments. We're always adding to the list.
