The Polk County Nonprofit Doing Work That Actually Matters: Pea Ridge Partnership
There's a kind of community work that doesn't make a lot of noise — it just shows up, consistently, in the places and for the people who need it most. That's what Pea Ridge Partnership Legacy & Empowerment Center is doing right here in Polk County.
As someone who believes deeply in the power of small communities to do big things, I wanted to shine a light on this organization — because more people should know it exists, and more people should be supporting it.
What Is the Pea Ridge Partnership?
The Pea Ridge Partnership Legacy & Empowerment Center is a community-based initiative operating under Empowering Through Beauty, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit with over 15 years of serving people and communities.
It was founded by Tanisha Twitty Akinloye, who has built something that is genuinely rare: an organization with three distinct but deeply connected pillars of impact.
People — Empowering individuals through education, confidence-building, and community support.
Space — Activating a community hub where programs, workshops, and gatherings take place in real life, with real people.
Legacy — Preserving history through the active restoration of the Amos Miller Historic Home, honoring the generations who built this community.
Rooted in Pea Ridge, Serving All of Polk County
The organization is named for and rooted in the Pea Ridge community — right here in our area. The Center itself is housed at Creators Vault at 25 S. Trade Street in downtown Tryon, making it accessible to the wider Polk County community while honoring the specific history and people of Pea Ridge.
That combination — honoring a specific community's history while opening the doors wide to everyone — is exactly what good community work looks like.
What They're Actually Doing
The Center runs programming focused on education, wellness, youth engagement, and economic empowerment. Current and upcoming offerings include:
Women Supporting Women Group — A recurring gathering for women to connect, support each other, and grow together. (Meets regularly — check their website for upcoming dates.)
Gospel Music & Art — A community event celebrating faith, creativity, and culture.
Young, Gifted, and Heard — Youth programming that centers young people's voices and experiences.
And that's just what's currently listed. This is an organization that is actively building — which means the programming will only grow.
The Historic Preservation Work
One of the things that sets Pea Ridge Partnership apart is the Amos Miller Historic Home Restoration Project. This is active work to preserve and restore a historic home as a space for education, storytelling, and honoring generational legacy.
In a county like Polk, where history runs deep and isn't always documented or celebrated the way it should be, this kind of preservation work matters enormously. It's not just about a building — it's about making sure future generations know the full story of this community.
The Person Behind It All
Tanisha Twitty Akinloye founded Empowering Through Beauty, Inc. and has been doing this work for over 15 years. The Center's formal launch in February 2026 — timed intentionally with Black History Month — marked a new public chapter for an organization that has quietly been building for a long time.
At the launch celebration, Tanisha described the Center's mission this way: it is a promise to honor ancestors, empower the present community, and prepare the next generation to walk boldly in purpose, faith, and leadership.
That's not marketing language. That's a calling. And you can feel it in the work.
Why I'm Sharing This
Part of what I do through Smithwick Communications is tell the story of Polk County — not just the businesses and the tourism spots, but the organizations and people doing the quiet, sustained, necessary work of building community.
Pea Ridge Partnership is that work. It's the kind of nonprofit that deserves more visibility, more volunteers, more donors, and more community members walking through its doors.
If you're looking for a place to plug in, a cause to support, or just want to know more about what's happening in your own community — this is a great place to start.
